Who qualifies
New IBM Cloud accounts completing eligible PAYGO onboarding; country availability checked at signup.
The catch
The account is PAYGO, not a guaranteed spending stop at $200. A card is required. Usage outside the allowance or eligible period can generate charges; no guaranteed GPU quota is included.

Modal's Starter plan includes $30 of free compute credit every month for serverless GPUs, CPUs and sandboxes.
- Anyone with a Modal account
- Resets monthly

Colab is free to use and includes access to GPUs and TPUs, though without a guaranteed allowance.
- Anyone with a Google account
- Catch: Free usage limits and hardware availability change dynamically, with no fixed allowance or guaranteed GPU model. Runtimes get disconnected; web-UI-style workloads (e.g. image-generation front ends) are restricted on the free tier.

Lightning's free tier gives up to 80 GPU hours (from up to 30 free credits) plus one free 24/7 Studio, no card needed.
- Anyone with a Lightning AI account

- Catch: Hours are 'up to' and vary with GPU price. Free Studios must be restarted every 4 hours. After the credits you pay per second.

Sign up through a RunPod referral link, load $10, and you get a random bonus credit of $5-$500 (Europe: fixed $5).
- First-time RunPod users who sign up with Google SSO after June 15, 2025
- Catch: You must use a referral link, sign up with Google SSO, be a brand-new RunPod user and load at least $10. Europe-based accounts get a fixed $5. The bonus amount is random and most draws are small.
